Stephanie Pui-Mun Law

Date December 22, 2008

Sorry for the lack of updates — I’ve been trying to get some of my stuff (poems, stories, whatever) published. Three of them got accepted for the January issues of the respective publications, heh.

Happy Holidays 2008 too.

“The lovers - balance, energy, flow, passion, melding of heart and mind, forming a union or marriage; determining values and choices, and struggling with temptation.”

A very lovely watercolor from the Tarot Set, by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law.

Stephanie Pui-Mun Law has been painting fantastic otherworlds from early childhood. After three years of programming for a software company by day and rushing home to paint into the midnight hours, she left the world of typed logic and numbers, for painted worlds of dreams and the fae (thank goodness!).

While most of Stephanie’s work is done with watercolors, she experiments with pen & ink, intaglio printing, acrylic, and digital painting as well.

angel photo

Not really traditional fantasy art, but oh well.

Miss Robbosetta is from Italy, and is Twenty4 (but people always say “sixteen”). She has other interesting photographs — conceptually, as well as aesthetically. You also get the sense of being right there at the viewfinder behind the camera, yourself.

dark angels

Left: Fallen (2005) | Right: [ COMING OF CTHULHU ] (2005)

Since 1995, Jason Beam has combined photography, found objects, and hand-drawn elements into frenetically detailed and stylized illustrations. His combination of digital surrealism and traditional photography produces a story-telling dreamlike environment that is sensual and unique.

When mentioning the terms ‘Dark Art’ or ‘Gothic Art’, many envision a gloomy, and grotesquely distorted expression of creativity. Jason Beam’s work intermixes emotion and beauty, with the dark and distorted. Much of the artist’s early work reflected personal emotional issues, but as his style developed, he set out to illustrate stories that inhabit society’s collective consciousness.

The Art Playground — Issue #0

Got an e-mail some time ago, thought I’d share it here.

The Art Playground is a free on-line magazine about illustration (and illustrators). The magazine is run by Chema, who compiles the digital magazine for free, during his free time. Why? Because Chema loves art and wants to share the art he likes.

The latest issue is a whopping 136 pages, and the next issue contains more pages and artists. A new issue is published every three months.

You can download it in .pdf format or in flip-page format by “Spotbit”, a free software (very cool — quick sign-up for account needed. I repeat, quick). There are big, high-quality pieces from the featured illustrators. Interviews are included when possible.

Issue #1, .pdf file.

I can’t remember how I surfed into this website (my guess is I was looking up for something, for a story/poem…).
